1.1 Background Of Study
Corruption is defined as dishonesty, a lack of integrity, or the use of a public office for personal benefit. Corruption “includes bribery, fraud, and other similar offences,” according to the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000 (hereinafter referred to as the Act). This has had an impact on both private and public sector organizations across the country today. It is unpleasant to acknowledge that some of our past leaders amassed fortunes through corruption, such as leveraging their positions for personal benefit, bribery, fund mismanagement, and contract price inflation. One of the most significant strategies to eradicate corruption in our society today is through motivation and good leadership. It is well established in our society today that a leader who is concerned about the needs of the people can achieve effective and efficient results at all levels of endeavor. A good leader is capable of directing and influencing the task-related activities of a group of people in her organization. A good leader frowns on nonchallant attitudes toward work and responsibilities at all levels of responsibility, as well as corruption at any level that may develop during the process of task actualization. The important point of this research work is to find some common problems encountered in the course of the study, and it is written on the assumption that corruption was heavily present in the CORPORATE AFFAIRS COMMISSION from 1991 to 2000.
1.2 Statement of problem
It was discovered that the CORPORATE AFFAIRS COMMISSION has suffered a setback due to inept management in positions of authority, as well as a lack of motivation and good leadership skills, which has resulted in numerous instances of corruption, bribery, and mismanagement of funds within the Commission. In 2001, Mr. Ahmed Almustapha supervised the installation of a new management team. A group with a high level of motivation. The Commission has been brought about by leadership and corruption at all levels of government.
1.3 Objective of study
The general objective of this study is to carry out a critical investigation on motivation, leadership and corruption in corporate affairs commission. Specifically, the study aims at;
- Examining whether poor leadership skill led to high level of corrupt practices in the CORPORATE AFFAIRS COMMISSION.
- Examining whether adequate motivation, and good leadership techniquescan, in one way, eradicate corruption at all levels of endeavor in the CORPORATE AFFAIRS COMMISSION.
- Examining whether the provision of adequate livelihood and good welfare package will enhance productivity.
1.4 Research Hypotheses
The validity of th following hypothetical statements will be tested in the chapter four of this research epistle;
H01: Poor leadership skill did not led to the high level of corrupt practices in the CORPORATE AFFAIRS COMMISSION.
H02: Adequate motivation, and good leadership techniques cannot, in one way, eradicate corruption at all levels of endeavor in the CORPORATE AFFAIRS COMMISSION.
H03: The provision of adequate livelihood and good welfare package will not enhance productivity.
1.5 Significance Of Study
The purpose of this project work is to examine motivation and good leadership ways to eradicate corruption in government parastatals in Nigeria with a case study of CORPORATE AFFAIRS COMMISSION. The aim is to focus attention on how motivation and good leadership teams could eradicate corruption in the day to-day operations of the general public, portraying a corrupt free working environment with efficient and prompt service delivery. In the course of this study, It was discovered that manpower training and development was introduced by the management to enhance an adequate campaign on the Anti Corruption Crusade at all levels of operation within the Commission.
This study will further add to the existing literature on this study domain and as well serve as a reference material for scholars, researchers, and students who may want to carry out further research on this topic or related area in the future.
1.6 Scope Of Study
This study focuses on critically investigating motivation, leadership and corruption in corporate affairs commission ( C.A.C). The study will also examine whether poor leadership skill led to high level of corrupt practices in the CORPORATE AFFAIRS COMMISSION. Furthermore, the study will examine whether adequate motivation, and good leadership techniques can, in one way, eradicate corruption at all levels of endeavor in the CORPORATE AFFAIRS COMMISSION. And whether the provision of adequate livelihood and good welfare package will enhance productivity. Hence, the staff of CORPORATE AFFAIRS COMMISSION, Abuja, will serve as enrolled participants for this study
1.7 Limitation Of Study
Finance,inadequate materials and time constraint were the challenges the researchers encountered during the course of the study.
1.8 Definition Of Terms
Motivation: Motivation is what explains why people or animals initiate, continue or terminate a certain behavior at a particular time. Motivational states are commonly understood as forces acting within the agent that create a disposition to engage in goal-directed behavior. It is often held that different mental states compete with each other and that only the strongest state determines behavior.
Leadership: Leadership is both a research area, and a practical skill encompassing the ability of an individual, group or organization to “lead”, influence or guide other individuals, teams, or entire organizations.
Corruption: Corruption, as it is defined by the World Bank, is a form of dishonesty or a criminal offense which is undertaken by a person or an organization which is entrusted with a position of authority, in order to acquire illicit benefits or abuse power for one’s private gain.
Corporate Affairs Commission: Corporate Affairs Commission is a body of the Nigerian Government responsible for the regulation and management of companies in Nigeria. It was introduced in 1990 with the passing of the Companies and Allied Matters Act. It is headed by a Chairman and closely assisted by the Registrar General/ CEO.[email protected].[email protected].
