Chapter one

Introduction

Background of the study

The management of spiritual gifts within the context of the Foursquare Gospel Church presents a critical challenge with profound implications for effective church administration. While the Foursquare Gospel Church, like many other Christian denominations, recognizes the importance of spiritual gifts as outlined in biblical teachings, there exists a need to address specific issues and uncertainties related to the identification, utilization, and integration of these spiritual gifts within the church management framework.

The Foursquare Gospel Church may currently lack a systematic and comprehensive approach to assess and identify the spiritual gifts present within its congregation. This absence of a structured assessment tool can hinder the church’s ability to fully understand and leverage the diverse array of spiritual gifts among its members.

The effectiveness of managing spiritual gifts is contingent on the availability and adequacy of equipping and training programs within the Foursquare Gospel Church. There may be challenges related to the provision of educational resources, mentorship opportunities, and practical training sessions aimed at developing and enhancing the effective use of spiritual gifts among members.

A potential problem could arise from a misalignment between the identified spiritual gifts of individuals and their placement in ministry roles. It is crucial to investigate whether there is a systematic process in place to ensure that individuals are strategically positioned in roles that capitalize on their unique spiritual gifts, fostering a harmonious and productive church environment.

The Foursquare Gospel Church may face limitations in leadership development initiatives specifically tailored to identify and nurture individuals with leadership-oriented spiritual gifts. This gap could hinder the church’s ability to cultivate a pipeline of capable leaders essential for effective shepherding and guidance within the congregation.

Managing spiritual gifts requires a delicate balance in promoting unity while embracing diversity. Potential issues may exist related to fostering a culture that values and incorporates the diverse array of spiritual gifts within the church body, ensuring a sense of belonging and mutual dependence among members.

The absence of regular evaluations and adaptive mechanisms could impede the church’s ability to assess the effectiveness of its current spiritual gifts management strategies. It is essential to investigate whether the Foursquare Gospel Church has established processes for ongoing evaluation and the flexibility to adapt its approach based on the evolving needs of the congregation.
