Abstract:

 This study investigated the utilization of instructional media in some selected Grade II Teacher Training Colleges in Kaduna State. By instructional media the researcher refers to all forms of information device that can be used to promote and encourage effective teaching-learning activities. In order to find out what exists in each college and what is effectively used in the colleges, the researcher designed and used two different structured questionnaires.
One was meant for the college principals and their media personnel. In all 104 questionnaires were administered and 78.84% responded. The responses were used in analysing the data and drawing conclusions in this study. Among the findings of this investigation are that: Most of the colleges investigated have no instructional media. (11) In the few colleges that have them, the instructional media are not effectively used. (iii) Teachers do not know how to use some instructional media. – i v – <lv) They (teachers) have no training in instructional media. (v) Teachers cannot improvise their own i nstr ucti ona1 ma teri a 1s . (vi) There are no media personnel in the colJ eges. (vLi) Instructional media equipment and materials are not maintained. (viii) Whei e the equipment and materials are avalJable, there are no physical facilities to use them effectively. (ix) Instructional media are in limited number because there is not enough fund to purchase the qu i pme n t a nd ma t e i i a 1 s . Jn view of these problems such as difficulty in acquisition, non-availability, ineffective utilization and lack of ma L ntai nance, all we need to do is to maximize our efforts in improvising instructional media relevant to our needs and aspirations
