Electrical Design and Drafting for a 3-storey Residential Building With 8 Flats
CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Electrical drafting and design is the simplest form of presenting electrical engineering drawings in a manner that makes it suitable for an intended purpose. It’s a process which tends to make installation work clear, concise, accurate and well presented. Electrical drafting and designs serves the sole purpose of properly communicating information on electrical system in a simple format of lines and symbols. It adopts the use of schematic and circuit diagrams.
This project work shows the electrical design and drafting of a 3 – storey Residential building with 8 – flats using Auto CAD. The use of Auto CAD gives a visual and symbol-based method of communication whose connections are particularly to a specific technical field.
However, more emphasis is based on the client’s interest/satisfaction and on the set standard of IEEE regulation in this regard.
1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT:
Due to the complexity that is involved in the design of electrical system, it is difficult to employ the manual system of drawing which may involves repetition and duplication of works.
Computers are now being used extensively in engineering industries for design and manufacture of production that could stand the test of time. Therefore, Auto CAD presents a clear and concis3e layout of designs, thereby eliminating the disadvantages of manual drawings (not easy to modify, ambiguous, low efficiency etc.); Also, the stress of tracing and blue printing after manual drawings are eradicated.
1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVES
The aim and objectives of this project are as follows.
- Neatness: To present a neat diagram that is void of ambiguity.
- Precision: To create lines, circles, poly line, construction lines and other electrical symbol/shape whose precision might be 99% accurate.
- Fastness: Using Auto CAD is to make the work faster and accurate.
- To create a design that can easily be modified with more ease than manual drawing using Auto CAD.
1.5 Methodology
This work employs the use of AutoCAD in the design process, provision of Bill of Engineering Measurements and Estimation and calculation of power ratings.
