EFFECTS OF ICT ON TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCESS IN THE 21ST CENTURY

 

Abstract

This study was on effects of ICT on teaching and learning process in the 21st century. Three objectives were raised which included:  To find out the effect on ICT on teaching and learning process in 21st century, to find out the characteristics of 21st century teaching and learning and to find out the effect of ICT on the academic performance of student. A total of 77 responses were received and validated from the enrolled participants where all respondents were drawn from selected secondary schools in Uyo. Hypothesis was tested using Chi-Square statistical tool (SPSS).

It also helps to reduce the social differences among learners as they work in groups to accomplish a specific undertaking. Equally, learners accept obligations when using ICT to carry out their activities via computerized portfolios or undertakings. In addition, the research has shown that ICT affects educators and methods of teaching significantly. Based on this background the researcher wants to investigate effect of ICT on teaching and learning process in the 21st century

Objective of the study

The objectives of the study are;

  1. To find out the effect on ICT on teaching and learning process in 21st century
  2. To find out the characteristics of 21st century teaching and learning
  3. To find out the effect of ICT on the academic performance of student

Research Hypotheses

The following research hypotheses are formulated to guide the study:

H1: there is no effect on ICT on teaching and learning process in 21st century

H2: there is no effect of ICT on the academic performance of student

Significance of the study

The study will be very significant students, ministry of education and the policy makers. The study will give a clear insight on the effects of ICT on teaching and learning process in the 21st century. The will provide the necessary benefits of using ICT in teaching and learning. The study will also serve as a reference to other researcher that will embark on the related topic

Scope and limitation of the study

The scope of the study covers effects of ICT on teaching and learning process in the 21st century. The study will be limited secondary schools in Uyo

Limitations/constraints are inevitable in carrying out a research work of this nature. However, in the course of this research, the following constraints were encountered thus:

  1. Non-availability of enough resources (finance): A work of this nature is very tasking financially, money had to be spent at various stages of the research such resources which may aid proper carrying out of the study were not adequately available.
  2. Time factor: The time used in carrying out the research work is relatively not enough to bring the best information out of it. However, I hope that the little that is contained in this study will go a long way in solving many greater problems.
