CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Continuous assessment is a systematic process of accumulating comprehensive information on students for guidance purposes. This evaluation strategy was recommended in 1981 when the National policy on evaluation was made for the implementation of 6-3-3-4 educational system in Nigeria.
To atestify and evaluate to learning experience, continuous assessment are given to students to test their ability in acquisition and the reviewing of the knowledge they are acquiring. This is an effort positively put in place to evaluate what is been taught to the learner.
1.1 BACKROUND OF THE STUDY
The research project is recording its findings to the positive effect of continuous assessment and to know whether teachers are handling their profession effectively. The research focus on the importance or how positively continuous assessment has stimulated learning and teaching effectively, as well as teachers knowledge of their work.
1.2 STATEMENT OF RESEARCH PROBLEM
The national policy on education indicates that, the implementation of continuous assessment is fraught with problems both for the educational system in general and the teachers in particular thus include;
a. Teachers in the system are trained but do not implement the policy with desirable enthusiasm.
b. Teachers at primary levels do not access pupils in the three domains of learning as required.
c. The pupils on the other hand are not committed to continuous assessment and may fail.
The above identified problems have presented a major problem to the teachers in primary schools in Konshisha local government.
